In Kafka, each event is represented by a key and a value. Both keys and values are Java objects which must be serialized in the producer side and de-serialized in the consumer side. For the sake of loosely coupling, we need a consistent serialization mechanism all around the application architecture. JSON, JavaScript Object Notation, is one most popular format for text-based values. In this article, you will see how serialize/de-serialize events' values to/from JSON.

The first step to get involved Kafka in Java projects in doing some proof of concept to publish/subscribe to a Kafka's topic in a Java application. I noticed most examples on the web are using Spring-style coding to do it. So I decided to setup a simple dockerized Java Maven based project to show to use Kafka.
